YouTube is the third most popular website in the world, after Google and Facebook. Millions of subscriptions happen each day on YouTube, with over 800 million unique users visiting each month. 1. Play Videos in Slow Motion

Did you know you can make any YouTube video play in slow motion? All you need to do is hold down the space bar and the video will start to play at a much slower speed.

Never mess with grapes.

If that doesn't satisfy your needs, you can also sign up for YouTube's HTML 5 Video Player, which allows you to slow down or speed up the video from the settings gear on the page.

Unfortunately, the settings under the gear icon won't help you get through those annoying ads any faster. It only works on videos that aren't monetized because the ones with ads still use Flash.

2. Link to a Specific Playback Point

Sometimes, when clicking on a link to a YouTube video, you're fast-forwarded to a specific point in the video. This is usually the case when the person who linked to the video intended for the viewer to watch that clip, without having to watch the rest of the video. If you want to do the same, here's how:

Add #t= to the end of the video URL, followed by the minute you want (with an m) and then the second (with an s). An example would be #t=01m18s or#t=78s for 1:18 in the video.

You can also just pause the video at the desired point, right-click on the video, and choose copy video URL at current time.

This also works for embedding videos, so if you're posting it on your own blog or website, you can also cut out an extra step by embedding the video rather than linking to it.

3. Load Videos Faster with Feather

Control Who Sees Your Facebook Posts With AVG PrivacyFix CrowdControl

Not all might be excessively obsessed with their online privacy, but it’s been put at the center-stage during the past few months (PRISM, anyone?). While we are not here to share tens of different methods to protect your internet privacy, but if you’re a Facebook user (which would include most internet users), you might want to check out AVG’s new offering called CrowdControl. It’s basically is an extension of AVG’s PrivacyFix app, a mobile version of which we covered just over a week ago for Android and iOS. For those who missed that post, PrivacyFix tries to fix various privacy-related settings on your smartphone for social media apps like Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc. CrowdControl, on other hand, is a web variant designed to control who sees your Facebook posts, by allowing you to easily set the relevant privacy permissions. Details after the jump.

Getting started with the app is fairly simple; head over to the Facebook page of AVG PrivacyFix CrowdControl using the link at the end of this post, and click ‘Connect to begin’.

After that, you will be presented with the following message:

“AVG PrivacyFix will receive the following info: your public profile, friend list, custom friends lists, News Feed, relationships, notes, work history, status updates, education history, hometown, current city, photos, likes and your friends’ notes, work histories, status updates, education histories, hometowns, current cities, photos and likes”.

You might argue that it’s a lot to ask by an app that’s made to protect your privacy, but the app needs access to all of this precisely to allow you to easily stay in control of it. Clicking Okay on this pop up is the only way you can use this app.

AVG then connects and loads up your configuration for you, and displays a progress bar at the top indicating the overall progress (which is quite fast). It scans your friends list and afterwards, lets you mark the people whom you don’t want to share your future posts with.

By default, everyone in your contacts list is marked green, denoting that the contacts will not see your feeds, though you can easily toggle it for individual contacts via a mouse click. Once ready, hit ‘Save List’ at the top to complete the CrowdControl wizard.

To control privacy of your future posts – that is marking and unmarking people who can see your content – just click the ‘My Crowd’ link under your Friends pane (as demonstrated below), followed by clicking ‘Manage List’ on the proceeding page.

Although you can achieve the same results without CrowdControl using Facebook’s own privacy settings, we all know how complicated and counterintuitive those are, which makes this app a must-try for those who want to stay in control of exactly which ones of their contacts can see their posts.

Disable Android Startup Items To Save Boot Time With BootManager

Android has made leaps and bounds in terms of progress since its advent, but it can still leave even the latest hardware feeling old at times. Just like with Windows, startup times and the task switching experience can deteriorate over time if your device has tons of apps installed on it. This is because of how many apps run automatically when you boot the device, and if you’re using a device with RAM less than 1GB and a single core processor, you can actually end up grinding your teeth at the dismal speed. However, as I said, Android has made leaps and bounds, and this extends to developer support as well, who seem to come up with a solution to every problem. Enter BootManager – an Xposed framework module that gives you control over every app that is set to auto-start upon boot by the OS. BootManager is a breeze to use even for the most novice of Android users, and all it requires is a rooted device with the Xposed framework installed. More on BootManager and how to use it, after the jump.

When you run the app for the first time, it will list down all apps set to run upon every boot of the OS. Do note that the free version of the app does not list or give access to system apps set to boot with device startup; you only get to see and manage user-installed apps that do so. To control such system apps, you will need to make an in-app donation.

Tap any app to disable its startup entry; a red highlight tells you that the app has been removed from starting up at boot. While the actual boot time is highly ROM dependent, it is the time the OS takes to settle down after boot up that is most concerning. Personally, I can tell you from my own experience that disabling a few apps using BootManager not just stopped the selected apps from starting up, but also shaved off a few good seconds from the moment the OS booted up until it settled down and was fully ready to be used.
